Description
Inspired by the biblical story of Salome and King Herod. The story goes, John the Baptist condemned and persecuted Herodias over the marriage of King Herod, who was her dead husband's brother. Salome was Herodias's sixteen year old daughter that King Herod was sexually attracted to. Salome promised King Herod that she would seductively dance for him at his birthday party if in return she could have 'John the Baptist's' head on a silver platter. This picture portrays her in the middle of the 'dance of the 7 veils' and with John the Baptist in chains waiting for his own death. I was inspired by a painting from 'Gustave Morneau', who painted the scene and this is my vision of it.
